He has worked extensively with local, county, state, and federal officials and organizations. As a lawyer, Joe has navigated through laws and public policies to be a strong voice for many, especially in the medical field and patient advocacy.
A society is defined by how it takes care of their young and seniors. The Board of Commissioners must assure that budget measures are in place for senior programs, care, and services. Joe has spent a career in the medical care business and as a health care advocate. He will be an extremely effective voice for seniors on the Commission.
Wayne County has some of the finest police, fire, and first responders. The Commissioners need to help provide funding and coordination with local municipalities to fully fund personnel, equipment, and training for those who put their lives on the line each and every day.
The Board of Commissioners are constantly being asked for road and infrastructure funding. It is their responsibility to work with state and federal officials to receive additional funding and then use the funds effectively to fix the roads the county is responsible for. The Commission also has to do what it can to help local municipalities with their road and infrastructure maintenance, repair, and improvements.
Wayne County has an obligation and responsibility to providing many services to the residents and businesses throughout the county. Expanding services while not raising taxes and fees is a challenge that requires careful financial planning - both short term and long term. Joe Richert has spent a career running a successful business and will bring both his business and legal expertise to the Board.
Higher interest rates, gas, food, education, and other expenses has made it very tough for people to buy a home or stay current with their payments. The Board of Commissioners need to be innovative and think outside-of-the-box to keep Wayne County home to individuals, families, and businesses. The Board needs to work with the Treasurer's Office and support programs for those who may need some assistance with affordable housing.
Although the State of Michigan is mainly responsible for public education, along with federal assisted educational program, that does not mean Wayne County is not involved in education. In fact, Wayne County helps fund many educational programs and outreach programs. Joe was a School Board Trustee and was a key member in many educational programs, studies, and task forces. Joe knows how to get things done in education that will benefit the students and educators directly.
